try doing pliometric exercises, like jumping from a high block then when you hit the ground you jump as fast as you can up again on a different block in front of you.

It's all about explosive exercises, like explosive squats with a lower weight.

squats and lunges will build your leg strength, in order to be explosive you'll need to do higher intensity exercises like plyo's.. i need to increase my vertical for basketball this fall and lately i've been doing a super set on nearly every exercise. I'll incorporate a calve set after squats, lunges, extensions etc. Also try doing squat jumps, even free weight will get the burn. hope this helped.
