Pixel/Cartoon question!

How do I draw a fire cape (pixeling), without making it look like a leopard fur robe?

Tried messing with colors but it all looks leopard print. Following the item from RS produces the same results. Any ideas?

dark yellow base, then freehand in some dark orange/brown blobs, then add lighter orange glows round em, and add a bit for ed in somewhere =p

Thanks for the example. Mine looked so leopardy lol, and the fire cape is so much less appealing if it looks like you killed a baby leopard to get it.
