The same thing happened to me but I was like 30 hp so I was doing the step in attack run back method so Im like oo w.e it probably just glitched and had to do it later when I  had more hp =(

Anyways, you can easily glitch the boss by running to the entrance... Mage him, he will walk backwards. Keep on maging until he walks towards you, then run to stairs again. Just repeat.
