So we'll start with mIRC first, firstly you'll want to open mIRC once connected hold alt and press J at the same time, if this doesn't work, just go to Favourites > and organize favourites

This will appear, you'll then want to click add

When this appears, make sure you type in the channel you want, for this example, we'll just use finalownage, make sure you click "Join on connect" then just click ok, then on the screen once you click ok, click "Enable join on connect"

Make sure you do this with every channel you want to auto join, shown below is how you auto Ident on mIRC, firstly you'll want to hit alt-O

This should appear, then you'll want to go to options

Once this screen appears, click on perform and a little box will appear, enable "Enable perform on connect" and in the perform commands put in:
/ns id yourpassword

Now onto swiftkit

Firstly, you'll want to load swiftkit, once it's loaded, click "Show Internal Utilities"

Once this appears, click on add, this should appear, once it appears fill it all out and make sure you tick all the boxes as shown below. make sure you put your password there as well

Once you've filled this out, on the same screen click add, and just add "Finalownage" in there(No key) and click ok and save, on the screen shown below, click "set-up auto-identify" and put in your IRC password

Once this is done, where it says "select profile" make sure you pick the one you just created otherwise everything you just added wont do anything :)

edit;
If you want to add highlights and take away message filtering, just go back into options and click on the Irc tab and just copy my picture

Should add stuff like enable message filtering in swiftkit etc, people who've never used Swiftkit are a pain to explain this to over and over again.

Nice, which one is better though?

It just comes down to preference, I strongly perfer mIRC, It's neater and more simple to use, but you'll need to use the runescape/orion client

But I'd say mIRC is better

Thanks, I didn't really get the IRC installation process.

Still, I have a problem; IRC seems to be only available for Windows users. I own a Mac,

What should I do?

You can either use swiftkit or you can use "mibbit"  http://mibbit.com/
