Ok, so, i saw a thread a few nights ago that really set my gears in motion..

Easy question with a difficult answer (or at least it might be to some of us)

When you think to yourself, do you think in full articulated sentences? Or based off a series of emotions/pictures/feelings?

here was the OP:

I was thinking about this the other day. When I'm thinking to myself, I don't think in words.

For example, let's say I'm looking at video games to play, and let's I have to pick between Modern Warfare 2 and FFXIII (don't judge me...), I won't weigh the options in my head like "Well MW2 is blah and FFXIII is bleh herp derp", because I think faster than it takes me to grasp for words. My thoughts are more akin to emotions, in that it's something that I can't really put in to words exactly what it's like (helpful, I know).

This leads me to having trouble expressing my thoughts clearly sometimes as I grasp for words that can elucidate exactly the meaning I want to convey.

I asked my roommates and they said their inner monologues are more like what you'd see in a movie, actual words and sentences. This struck me as weird."

Back to myself, I personally think in full sentences, not with EVERY SINGLE thought that enters my head, some decisions are made solely on instinct/gut feelings/basic knowledge. Some are not.

example:

If you misplaced your car/house keys, what would be the thought process in your mind to locate them? Would it be "Ok where do I remember having my keys last? Maybe I left them in my jeans, nope not in my jeans, how about on the counter, nope not their either!"

(almost like JD from scrubs but not as drastic to the point of complete narration)

Or is it more like, there's a feeling or an image associated with each place you may look for your keys, and that feeling is what goes through your head.

So there it is, enlighten me FOE.

tl;dr - There are no short cuts in life, if you want to post, read the whole thing.

No, thoughts are thoughts, there are no words, there are no pictures, they are only thoughts, when you think of something, you think of every single thing to do with that thing, you picture it, you think of the name, that's what thoughts are, I don't know what this topic is going to achieve, nobody has a special way of thinking, thoughts are thoughts.

no, i honestly saw the thread on /b/ and it really interested me.. and Pur3/Dog i disagree. So what you're saying is that EVERYONE has the same basic thought structure and we all come to the same conclusion by the same method of thinking?

like i said i for one think in full grammatically correct sentences (as much as i can haha) while i know others don't think in "words" i've talked to multiple other people after reading this and i've come across very different answers.. its all a make up of being right or left brained.. thats what i'm trying to get at, figuring out how the opposite brained (opposite from myself) think and process all their thoughts..

If I were with my friend and I lost my keys I would probably put pictures in my head of places they could be.

when i think or try to remember something, i pretty much try to recreate the whole thing in my head.

but another thing is when i hear someone say something, i know their voice, so i can make it sound like they are saying anything in my head, or they are doing anything if i know what they look like. :p

You don't think the sentence, that's the thing, you just think she's pretty, without saying it in your head, because you think things and make judgements so quickly and naturally that nothing is said in your mind, only time when I think sentences through in my head really is if i'm thinking of what to write etc :P I'd of thought that would have been the same for everyone..

My mind works so fast so if for example I lost my keys I would instantly know were to go an retrace my footsteps immediately. I wouldn't word it out in my head.. Brain just processes it instantly? Anyone else the same?

^ That's how everyone's mind works :S you don't stand there and think the sentence "Now where did I put my keys" you just know that you have lost them without thinking that lol.. You'd be pretty slow if you had to think out sentences/words XD

Tl;dr but I read most of it, so I hope I don't go off-topic. This also interests me.

It depends entirely on the situation, if I'm thinking about past senarios (Arguements, parties, etc), I think in dialog, so as if I'm telling someone a story, usually asthough I'm composing a novel, so I'll have my mind thesaurus going in hyperdrive. I.e '..And suddenly, he struck me directly in the face.'

If I'm problem solving I think asthough I'm making a tutorial video and am guiding someone else, be that knoting a tie, pumping up a bike wheel or doing basic math.

This is the weird one; If I'm thinking of things TO say I think like an hoodnigger from london, in my head I'm all 'Mans gunna licked if he steps to me on hype ting gen, blad!'
