This post is not Deadman specific, but it falls along the same line.

Within the last year or so Jagex have taken interest in broadcasting massive runescape events, (competitions), for exposure while not fully understanding what it is which makes runescape competitive.

This lack of understanding has led to failure each time in determining competition mechanics for several very clear reasons. I sincerely believe that the main and mostly unknown reason why these competitions always fail is that they have never consulted or even paid attention to the massive yet hidden community of players who for over 10 years now have been trying to perfect what the highest level of runescape competition is. I'm going to better articulate what His Lordship from the Wilderness Guardians endlessly goes on about between doing his Bandos Chestdips and Zamorak Squats: PvP clans are arguably the most essential part of this game. Allow me to explain.

There are only two paths available when creating a Runescape PvP competition: 1v1 or multi. 1v1 competitions can be entertaining as well if done correctly, but multi clans take the highest level of 1v1 skill meta and tries to apply it to their full member group while combining that with coordination and strategy. When one teamspeak call can determine whether a clan ends up in an instant multi spell chinchompa pile, and you apply that to the multiple types of runescape environments, there is a lot of strategy in just the positioning of a clan in a fight.

There is a reason why the most revered clans in the community have stayed stayed alive for over 10 years but still find fighting each other interesting while also never losing their collective dominance over crudely formed masser clans. There is a reason why RoT PvP engineers and RoT logicians were able to sweep the entire set of clan cup categories and annihilate Deadman mode.

These clans have been looking for the differentiating factors in the highest level of individual pking skill then combining it with group coordination strategies and honing these factors into advantages until they're unbeatable. You will never be able to create a truly legitimate competition until you pinpoint what it is in your game that creates the differentiating mechanics which facilitated a 10+ year long competition between untold thousands of people. The first step in doing this is to consult the leaders of these clans.

The most entertained I've ever been in my 10+ years of runescape was watching and being apart of the 6/7 year long f2p/p2p rivalry between the pure clans Foe and MM while witnessing their combined dominance over the rest of the pure clanning community, (thousands of players). This rivalry and community was fuelled by honing the mechanics and strategy of multi warring. I'm sure people in the main clanning community have their equivalent rivalry stories. I believe it's a total waste that Jagex have completely ignored, (we tried to reach out to them repeatedly over the years), that aspect of this game for so long and it is a great irony that their attempt to capitalize on the potential viewership demand for PvP competition comes after a full decade of the most exciting "underground" competitions and after the evolution of PvP skill has pretty much stagnated.

When people argue that Runescape "takes no skill" they're the ones who believe that the highest level of PvP is switching from Dscim to DDs and eating a shark. I'm not sure what the mods' view of skill looks like, but the competitions leave a lot to be desired. Everyone has their own way to play but if you want to create legitimate competitions for people to watch on twitch you have to know what part of your game is competitive and why that is. Consult the clans then apply what they've been competing over for the past 10 years to a game mode or minigame which maximizes and adds on to the differentiating mechanics in your engine which can highlight skill.

The competition has always been there and was always thriving, you just need to see it and give it a deserving platform.

Why did he link a RoT vid when Jagex doesn't like RoT

Pretty sure Jagex is asking RoT for help in the next DMM season/Finale. I don't think they dislike them.
