Choosing a new GPU

What do I want?

Initially I was planning on doing a whole new PC build next year, but have been thinking lately its not really needed my PC runs fine. Perhaps just upgrade from my GTX 670s in SLI.

If I were to do a new build I was planning on going for a GTX 1080ti when it is released. However I am thinking that just getting a GTX 1070 would be heaps fine. Have thought about an RX480 but is it worth the risk of frying my mobo?

the gtx 1080ti probably cost doubled the gtx 1070, but it will be the best graphics card on the market and will suit you extremely well for the games currently released, especially as games become more optimized for current pc builds.

i wouldnt go overboard if you cant afford it. games run fine on lower high tier graphics cards

tbh even gtx 900's are still really good. I have a GTX 760 from like 2 years ago and it runs most games on high, which is enough for me - including Witcher 3 which is quite graphics intensive.

Even the current 1080's are double the price of the 1070 atm, I know over in the EU we are getting ripped off with the prices of current 10 series cards, 1080Ti is going to be like £900 in the UK so it's definitely not worth it for me, 1070 is the sweet-spot atm, I don't even look at AMD anymore tbh.

If you're not replacing your motherboard, make sure to check it's supported cards to optimise your performance.

I was told there aren't many games on the market that can possibly use enough of the 1080 card so its pointless getting one?

OVERKILL

the 900 series work wonders still, no point dishing out tons of money for a slight increase atm.

Go for like a skylake build with a 980ti or SLI 980TI for future proofing and the best performances
